Adveq endorses the newly formed Principles

Zurich, Switzerland, October 21, 2011 – Adveq, an independent private equity fund of funds investment manager operating globally, today announced that the firm has incorporated the Principles for Responsible Investment in Farmland (the “Farmland Principles”) into  its investment process. The Farmland Principles, launched in September this year, were developed by a group of international investors with the objective to improve the sustainability, transparency and accountability of investments in farmland.

Adveq is the first private equity investment manager to formally endorse the Farmland Principles, as it believes that they are relevant to all long-term orientated institutional investors involved in agricultural investments.

Rainer Ender, Managing Director of Adveq, said: “As a signatory of the UNPRI and an endorser of ESG principles in general, Adveq is committed to implementing best practice in responsible investing, which is why we felt the urgency to integrate the farmland principles into our investment process, to actively endorse them and to cooperate with fellow investors in their further rollout and implementation.”

The Farmland Principles provide best practice guidelines for promoting environmental sustainability, respecting labor and human rights, and abiding by existing land and resource rights. They also cover business and ethical standards as well as transparency in reporting on activities and progress towards implementing and promoting the Principles.

The Farmland Principles were developed and are endorsed by a group of international institutional investors consisting of AP2 (Sweden), ABP (Netherlands), APG (Netherlands), ATP (Denmark), BT Pension Scheme (UK), Hermes EOS (UK), PGGM (Netherlands) and TIAA-CREF (USA), which among them represent USD 1.3 trillion of assets. These investors are also part of a newly formed United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI) working group that will develop implementation support and tools to further advance responsible investment in farmland.
